Welcome

Welcome to my Portraiture website, where I will briefly explain to you how I work as an artist, and what I require in order to carry out a commission on your behalf.

I will create a one off personal portrait for you to celebrate a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, a going away gift, a thank you offering, a new birth, a baptism, a confirmation or holy communion, whatever the occasion is that you wish to celebrate.

Dog PortraitI have also carried out portraits to commemorate the passing of a dear friend, and I have been commissioned for animal and pet portraits. I work from good quality photographs, as it is not necessary to make a sitter pose for my paintings; anyway you try and get a 3 year old, or a Jack Russell for that matter to sit still for more than twenty minutes! You can send me head and shoulder images that I can scrutinise so as to be sure of their clarity and quality, or likewise you can hand deliver or post me hardcopies, that shall be returned on completion.

Child Portrait My style for portraits is quite colourful as I try to recreate a visually life-like portrait of the sitter while equally, and perhaps more importantly to me, that I capture that 'energy' that all life forms possess. A portrait of a loved one is very unique, and in order to celebrate, or indeed commemorate, a special friend, there is perhaps nothing more suitable after that of the spoken or written word. I provide such a reflection of an individual by way of a 'visual' gift, to celebrate a friend's personality. The occasions for such a gift are entirely up you the client, as these days it could be said that material rewards are not as satisfying as they perhaps were in what was a wealth driven society. We are now therefore harking back to the good days when a kind word, a helping hand, or a thoughtful personal offering were considered to be important. This is what art can provide, and it is what I am all about, and what I am trying to convey through my portraits.

How I Work

As a portrait artist I work with various mediums, but I primarily use watercolour and Caran d'Ache colouring pencils as a combination, sometimes dropping in a little acrylic paint where 3-D effect is required.

I will also however carry out commissions using acrylic on canvas board, and on traditional stretched canvas. Occasionally when it is requested or indeed suitable, I will create a mono-toned black on white pencil and charcoal portrait, or similarly create this visual effect by using pastels on sugar-paper.
